In recognition of the upcoming holiday season, Wellness Works organized a campaign to celebrate the philanthropic work organizations have participated in throughout the year. While the winner has been selected, Wellness Works would like to take this opportunity to celebrate all the companies who shared their story. Because of your involvement with local causes, you are contributing to a healthier community and Detroit region.
Oswald Companies
For years, community engagement has played an important role in the organization’s culture. Passionate employees volunteer monthly at Pope Francis Center to provide guests with healthy meals. The company also formed a partnership with Life Remodeled to remove blight in a local Detroit neighborhood and Oakland Family Services to organize monthly reading visits to four local preschools.
Cornerstone Community Financial
For Pediatric Cancer Awareness, Cornerstone Community Financial (CCF) organized CCF Cruisin for a Cure. This fundraiser collected $10,000 total which allowed CCF to donate 16 mini cars to the Children’s Hospital of Michigan, 5 cars to Toledo Children’s Hospital, and $6,000 to cancer research.
Community Choice Credit Union
During their annual Give Big month in September, 300 team members volunteered over 2,600 hours across Michigan communities. Employees also raised $1,400 for the Community Choice Credit Union scholarship program, which awards $100,000 annually.
OHM Advisors
A team of 43 employees raised over $7,000 for The National Kidney Foundation of Michigan. They participated in the Kidney Walk at the Detroit Zoo to celebrate their contribution toward research and treatment.
Greater Metropolitan Association of Realtors (GMAR)
Through their GMAR Placemaking Program, the organization provided the Allen Park Citizens Civic Fund with financial support to develop little libraries throughout their communities. The association also awards annual scholarships to members’ children who are seeking higher education in the state of Michigan through their Relator Scholarship Program.
Hampton Inn of Northville
Through their partnership with Blessings in a Backpack of Livonia, Hampton by Hilton employees donated time to pack cereal breakfasts for elementary school students. They met twice during the summer to prepare for the start of the new school year.
Zeal Credit Union
Zeal Credit Union provided each branch and department with funds to support the causes they are most passionate about. The company also hosts volunteer outings each quarter and encourage employees to utilize their paid volunteer time off.
The L.I.V.E Outreach
The L.I.V.E Outreach participated in career day at George Washington Carver Academy to speak with students about peer pressure and bullying. The students found this to be a very rewarding experience.
Manoogian Manor
Manoogian Manor hosted a classic car show for the community to enjoy. Free food was provided to everyone who stopped by. Residents and the community enjoyed the event.
MJS Packaging
As a proud sponsor of the Ronald McDonald House of Detroit, employees teamed up to make cozy blankets and prepare meals for families at the house.
Bowker Insurance Group
Bowker Insurance Group partners with the Mi Cookie Project, an organization that helps adults with developmental disabilities learn hands-on skills by running a business where participants bake cookies from start to finish to sell at community events. Employees got involved with a recent Rally Day/Referral Drive.
Hegira Health, Inc.
Hegira employees volunteered their day off to paint the hallways if Jefferson Barnes Community Vitality Center in Westland as a gift to their community.
Chase Creative
Chase Creative was honored to participate with Camp Casey this year. Chase Creative sponsored their Gold Rush Gala in September by providing staging, lighting, and audio equipment.
BASF Corporation
Through their inspirational STEM Education Outreach program, BASF provides hands-on learning to help students become innovators and leaders of the future.
SEMCA Michigan Works!
SEMCA Michigan Works! began SEMCA CARES, an employee volunteer effort to give back to their community. They partnered with Fishes and Loaves in Taylor for their first project to provide food to those in need.
Angela Hospice Home Care, Inc.
Employees participate in many charitable events throughout the year. One of their favorite events was the Miracle League of Plymouth’s baseball game where staff volunteered as “buddies” to assist children with disabilities to play a game of baseball.
The Dearborn Agency, Inc.
Each year, a team of volunteers gather to prepare and serve food to those involved in Christnet, a program that provides temporary housing for the homeless.
