Detroit Free Press / TCF Bank Marathon

Where can you find 26,000 runners from around the world, over 45 charities, more than $2 million in donations, and a whole lot of running shoes?  

Runners from all 50 states and over 50 countries will gather in Detroit this weekend for the 42nd Detroit Free Press / TCF Bank MarathonOver 4,000 of the 26,000 total participants are expected to generate $2 million for more than 45 charities. This race is the largest of its kind in Michigan, weaving through historic Detroit neighborhoods and Windsor, Canada.  

Many employees of regional businesses will be participating in race eventsNot only is this a fun way for runners to challenge themselves, it’s also a great way to support community well-being. When employees and businesses engage with their communities, they are making a positive impact on the region at large 

Weekend Highlights  

    • The Annual Health and Fitness Expo will be held at the TCF Center Friday, October 18 from 2pm – 8pm and Saturday, October 19 from 10am – 7pm. The public is invited to browse over 100 vendor exhibits. 
    • Saturday’s race events include the Competitive 1-Mile at 9am, 5K at 9:30am, and Meijer Kids Fun Run at 10:30am. All three races take place along the Detroit Riverwalk. 
    • The Detroit Free Press / TCF Bank Marathon starts bright and early Sunday morning. At 7am, participants will run through historic Detroit neighborhoods, over the Ambassador Bridge, and through the Windsor Tunnel. This course will also encompass the Disabilities Division, Marathon Relay, International Half-Marathon, and U.S.-Only Half Marathon. 
    • The official marathon after party will be held at the surface parking lot on the corner of Fort and Third Street from 8am – 2pm on Sunday. Participants and their supporters are invited to celebrate with snacks from local food trucks, live entertainment, prize giveaways, and games. Cold beer will be sold at a minimal price and all proceeds will be donated to the Michigan Humane Society.
